Acupuncture & Movement

I trained in two worlds that don't often meet - East Asian Medicine and movement practice - and over time, I've come to understand they were never meant to be separate.

A verbal intake can only tell me so much. The fuller picture comes from watching how someone actually carries their body through space - where they brace, where they compensate, which patterns have become so familiar they no longer register as anything unusual. Bodies are remarkably good at normalizing dysfunction. A shoulder that's been guarded for years starts to feel like just how a shoulder is. Proprioception - our sense of where we are in space - adapts to whatever we repeat, whether or not it's serving us.

Working with someone through both acupuncture and movement lets me see what neither avenue would reveal alone. My movement work draws from Gyrotonic, Gyrokinesis, Comprehensive Pilates, and yoga - each offering a different way to build strength, mobility, and body awareness, depending on what someone needs. What I notice on the table informs how I guide someone through movement, and what I observe in how they move informs what I treat.

This is especially true in injury rehabilitation, where the potential of combining the two feels almost endless: acupuncture supporting tissue healing and calming guarding patterns, movement work slowly rebuilding strength and trust in a body that's learned to protect itself. Neither piece rushes the other.
